How to Make a Paper Gun
At some point or another every little boy wants a toy gun to play with; parents are sometimes skeptical about getting one because they fear it will bring harm to their children or to other children and this is a very valid concern. So what is the solution to this problem? A paper gun.
A paper handgun is a really quick and easy project that you can teach your children to make to pass a little time. You can all sit down and make paper guns together if you wish and play a game of police and thieves or Indians, or whatever else you choose – either way it can provide a few hours of safe fun so here are some tips on making a ‘cocking’ handgun.
Required Tools
- Your hands
Required Materials
- Paper
Instructions
- To make the cocking paper handgun, take a sheet of letter-size paper and fold it in half lengthwise, fold it in half again, and yet another time. So it should be folded 3 times in total. Then take a second sheet of paper and fold it in the same way, the same number of times.
- Take one of the folded sheets and fold it in half widthwise; this piece will serve as the barrel of your paper gun. Take the second sheet of paper and fold a 90-degree angle in either end of it to form a U shape, leaving about 4 inches of paper across the middle section.
- With the 90-degree angle folds still intact, fold the paper in half so that both 90-degree angle folds meet together and are aligned. The paper should have an L shape if this step is done correctly.
- Now take the ‘barrel’ piece of paper and slide it around the 90-degree folds, into the pockets that have been made in them. Pull the barrel back and slide it forward to cock the gun and you are done.
- If you want a more realistic paper gun or different types of paper guns such as an Uzi or Berretta, there are quite a few picture and video tutorials online and templates that you can download, cut out and glue together to make a more realistic gun.
Tips and Warnings
- The shooting paper guns are pretty harmless as shooting it requires blowing into the barrel or using a paper roll to push the bullet out the barrel which is not typically forceful enough to do harm, so you do not have to worry about safety issues with a paper gun.
- If the gun design is not quite to your liking, you can modify it to suit your tastes. You now know the basic idea behind making a paper gun so adjust it as you please to make a satisfactory paper gun.
- Color or decorate the paper gun to make it more realistic or suited to your liking.
- If you do not have letter-size paper any paper will do; just remember that the size of the gun will be based on the size of the paper.
